How Trauma-Informed Is Your Organisation?
A short reflection checklist
This is not a test it’s a starting point for reflection.
Leadership & Culture
- Do staff feel safe to raise concerns without fear of blame?
- Is wellbeing spoken about openly, not just assumed?
- Do leaders model boundaries and healthy working practices?
Policies & Procedures
- Are policies written in clear, human language?
- Do they explain what will happen, not just what must be done?
- Do they allow for flexibility where appropriate?
- Communication
- Is communication consistent and transparent?
- Do people feel informed, not left guessing?
- Is language respectful and non-judgemental?
Staff Experience
- Is the emotional impact of the work recognised?
- Are staff supported, not just expected to cope?
- Is supervision reflective, not only task-focused?
Client / Service User Experience
- Do people understand what support is available?
- Are they given choice and time to engage?
- Do they feel heard and believed?
A simple way to read this
- If you answered “not yet” to several of these — you’re not alone.
- Most organisations are doing parts of this well,
- but struggle with consistency.
This is often the point where organisations move from awareness into meaningful, structured change.
